Today, I am spending a little time reflecting on one of my favorite books"Hands Free Life:  9 Habits for Overcoming Distraction, Living Better, & Loving More" by Rachel Macy Stafford.

With all that is going on in the our world, in our country, our state, our city, our home...I felt it was time to quiet my mind and focus, again, on the one and only thing I can actually control...ME.

One of my favorite parts of this book is Part Two: Living For Today/Habit 4: Take The Pressure Off.  I think of this as it relates to being AUTHENTICAuthentic is a word that I work towards with great intention.  The Hands Free Life Daily Declaration in this part of the book is, to me, so authentic!

"Today there might be mismatched socks.  There might be not-so-healthy food choices.  There might be messes, bulges, and fine lines where I don't want them to be.  But today I will be at peace with my less-than-perfect life.  I refuse to waste precious time or hurt precious people (including myself) in my unachievable pursuit of perfection.  After all, love doesn't have to be perfect to be nurturing or nourishing."

I would like to add the word authentic to the final sentence.  After doesn't need to be perfect to be...authentic.

We should all take the pressure off and let go of unrealistic expectation and allow ourselves to be present in the moment.  Yes...that moment, the one with all the imperfections, and embrace 'good enough' for today.

Let's authentically focus on what really matters by declaring (as the book suggests):

  • Our time and effort are good enough.

  • Our appearance is good enough.

  • Our house is good enough for a home where LIFE happens, PEOPLE live, MISTAKES happen and FORGIVENESS is given.

  • Our contributions to others are enough to make a difference.

Let's start by showing up, as our authentic selves.  No pressure.  Just honest, kind, caring...authentic goodness.  No agenda.  Let's start now.
